What do PBL teachers say?

Overview

In project based learning, you move from the role of 'sage on the stage' to the role of 'guide on the side'. This means that, while the students do the work of learning, your focus shifts from transmitting information to managing the process of learning. This is a complex role, requiring both facilitation and leadership skills. One important goal as a project based learning teacher is to develop a set of management tools that can help you keep the project focused and moving forward. In this module you will learn several essential tools for project management, as well as hear from experts who share helpful hints on project management.

Skill Development You must develop management skills that enable you to successfully plan and execute a project, as well as facilitation skills that help you work successfully with students as they move through a process of discovery and reflection. The trick is to become comfortable with the open-ended nature of the inquiry process, while still structuring and guiding a project to a successful conclusion. Most often, these skills develop through experience.
